Their Game Weekend: 2nd & 3rd October 2021

A weekend of minimal verbal communication to create a positive and pressure-free environment

Hampshire FA’s ‘Their Game’ returns this weekend of Saturday 2nd and Sunday 3rd October.

Hampshire FA’s ‘Their Game’ initiative involves coaches and spectators providing minimal verbal communication throughout games. This is to raise awareness for the essential need to create a positive and pressure-free environment in which children can enjoy football and learn to love and develop themselves within the beautiful game.

The need to provide the best environment for children to play football within Hampshire is of the upmost importance. Every year we look to alter and improve this fantastic initiative; ensuring that every individual surrounding each game has a role to play (Parents, Referees, Stewards, Coaches etc.). ‘Their Game’ aims to achieve a fun, safe and developmental experience for all children in football by allowing them to make their own decisions, enabling them to play the game with freedom and without pressure or over-emphasis on winning at all costs.

The next Their Game Weekend will be Saturday 2nd and Sunday 3rd October 2021.

Everyone involved in matches in the participating leagues listed below should download and read the Their Game Resource Pack. In this document you can find FAQs, ideas for how you can get involved and support the initiative, and Codes of Conduct that should be observed for all matches across the participating leagues by EVERYONE involved, including parents, coaches and referees.

Whether this is your first time taking part in this initiative or your fifth, the importance of this awareness should remain the same. In taking part in the ‘Their Game’ initiative, everyone involved in football will be doing their part to provide a positive environment for the children who want to enjoy football and develop their game.

We look forward to this fantastic weekend and hope that everyone surrounding these games play their part in improving grassroots football for Children.
