Peter Raynbird

Peter Raynbird, Hampshire FA’s longest serving member, passed away yesterday morning aged 95

We're saddened to hear the news that Hampshire FA's longest serving member, Peter Raynbird, has passed away.

A message from our CEO, Neil Cassar, remembering Peter -

'It is my very sad duty to advise you that Peter Raynbird – Hampshire FA’s longest serving member – passed away yesterday morning aged 95.  Peter had a gall bladder infection which turned into COVID sepsis after contracting COVID-19 whilst in hospital.

Peter had served Hampshire FA (and North Hants Divisional FA), more recently as our most senior Life Vice President, with great distinction for the last 55 years and also served the Basingstoke & District Football League for an incredible 66 years during which time he was affectionately known as “Mr Football” before retiring 2019.

Peter’s retirement didn’t last long and was proud to be elected as President of Basingstoke Town Community FC in 2019 and he continued to support the club at home matches including the club’s first game at Winklebury Football Complex in October 2020.

Peter’s legacy will continue to live on and his contribution to football should be celebrated by the thousands of players, coaches, officials and referees who he helped support during his outstanding service to our National Game.
