RAF Kit appeal 2025

DID YOU KNOW....

Over 100,000 tonnes of sportswear ends up in landfills every year! Yet so much more can be done to ensure that the kits (as well as footwear and even equipment) are given a new lease of life away from landfill.

Here's how we do our part here in Hampshire and how you can get involved too:

Taking Football to Africa & Beyond Appeal

Hampshire FA supports the annual RAF-backed charity appeal, Taking Football to Africa & Beyond, donating hundreds of football kits, staff kits and so much more to support international communities every single year. To ensure we are playing an active role in the fight against climate change, our four hub sites in the county act as donation points every year, thereby ensuring that members do not have to make longer trips to donate (reducing emissions in the process), with a site situated in closer proximity for ease of access. Hampshire FA then coordinates the transportation of all kits with RAF Odiham up to RAF Shawbury in one-off drop offs.

Howden Insurance - Alton (boot bins & boots)

Hampshire FA's commercial partners Howden Insurance - Alton supports Hampshire FA's Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) work by donating unwanted/preloved football boots to support many of Hampshire FA's CSR activities, initiatives and sessions taking place across the sites in the county and beyond the sites. Howden Insurance - Alton has provided free boot bins for all four of Hampshire FA's sites, supporting our work as well as the many enquiries for footwear received from community set-ups and clubs. So far the boots have supported Dignity FC's sessions in Bournemouth (refugee football sessions) and have also supported a local community football day (Love Your Leigh Park event) held in February at our Front Lawn Community Hub in Havant.

'Balls for Schools'

Hampshire FA's CSR team is piloting a new initiative that is soon to be publicised across the association's channels. In the background, our association is piloting 'Balls for Schools' an opportunity to donate and reuse preloved footballs and equipment and support schools and any set-ups where resources and equipment is limited. Hampshire FA supported a few schools last year, all of which is evidenced on the association's CSR page. This has prompted the start of this campaign, connecting more clubs to the cause and in support of local schools in their area in need of equipment. Hampshire FA is behind the coordination of all arrangements to support more students accessing the game at their school.
