Autism Awareness Workshop
The face-to-face workshop will be delivered by Autism Hampshire’s Consultant & Trainer Dave Serpell-Stevens, who will draw from his own experiences.
This workshop is open to all participants of Hampshire clubs and will offer Coaches and Club Welfare Officers the opportunity to learn how they can better support autistic players and members of their clubs.

Workshop Contents
A brief redefinition of ‘autistic’ in the context of the neurodiversity model and Double Empathy Problem. Both will be fully explained in lay terms. This is aimed at challenging a lot of the damaging misconceptions created by the more medicalised approach which has prevailed historically.
An introduction to Monotropism. This is a useful theory which helps explain in general terms, one important aspect of autistic processing which influences all areas of life including communication.
Generic practical tips concerning how to consider Monotropism in a few key areas.
A brief discussion of meltdowns.
